Rainbow Families is a group for LGBTTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit and queer) parents and their children 0-12. We meet the first Tuesday of every month from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Centretown Community Health Centre.
A typical evening begins with pizza and then we break into groups, or sometimes, we do an activity all together. The parent group meets for support, education and advocacy, while childcare is provided for children 0 to 6 and programming is provided for children 6-12.
Parents can participate in a facilitated group for support, information, education, and advocacy on the joys and challenges of LGBTTQ parenting.
Children (6-12) are invited to participate in a fun-filled program our facilitators design for our school-age children. Some of the programming is specific to the children of LGBTTQ families and has a social justice component.
Children (0-6) can enjoy a free play program along with planned activities are provided by trained childcare providers for our preschool children.
Rainbow Families is a program offered in partnership with Family Services à la famille Ottawa and Centretown Community Health Centre. The group is free of charge. Parents are asked to contribute what they can to help cover the pizza costs.
The next meeting is Tuesday, May 4th, 2010.
